Paul Rosenzweig, a Senior Advisor for The Chertoff Group and former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will participate in a panel discussion, “Encryption and Information Sovereignty: Destroying the Internet to Save it?” from 3:30 P.M. – 4:20 P.M. in Room 2016 at the Moscone Center. Tom Corcoran, Head of Cyber Threat Intelligence at Zurich Insurance Group; Peter Neumann, a Senior Principal Scientist at SRI International Computer Science Lab; Julia Powles, Attorney and Researcher with the University of Cambridge’s Cloud Cyber-crime Center; and Shawn Powers, Assistant Professor at Georgia State University will provide insight on the inherent tensions between information security and national security focusing specifically on encryption policy and civil rights.

Michael Chertoff, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of The Chertoff Group, will participate in a panel discussion alongside privacy and security experts on today’s encryption debate, entitled “Beyond Encryption: Why We Can’t Come Together on Security and Privacy – and the Catastrophes That Await if We Don’t” from 2:50 P.M. – 3:40 P.M. at Moscone South in the Esplanade Ballroom. Fellow panelists, including Art Coviello, former Executive Chairman, RSA; J. Trevor Hughes, President and CEO of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP); Mike McConnell, Senior Executive Advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton; and Nuala O’Connor, President and CEO for the Center for Democracy and Policy, will explore the deeper issues underlying today’s debate and the need to change the conversation in a way that truly addresses the long-term trajectory of both privacy and security.

Michael Chertoff will join a panel discussion, “Active Defense: Defining the Policy, Technology and Legal Landscape,” taking place from 11:20 A.M. – 12:10 P.M. in Room 2016 at the Moscone Center. This panel of experts will explore the cyber tools, technologies and methods adversaries use to attack and infiltrate American business and how corporations can protect their assets. Fellow panelists, including Stewart Baker, Partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP; Frank Ciluffo, Vice President at the George Washington Center for Cyber and Homeland Security; and Geoff Hancock, President and CEO of the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT), and a Principal at the Advanced Cyber Security Group, will provide insight on the legal parameters and policy framework for combating cyber adversaries.
